Hyundai has officially confirmed the upcoming US production of its three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, as part of its new “Hyundai Way” strategy. This strategy aims to drive significant growth in the electric vehicle market, with Hyundai planning to sell 5.55 million vehicles globally by 2030, including two million EVs. The IONIQ 9, along with the updated IONIQ 5, will be manufactured at Hyundai’s new Metaplant America in Georgia, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
Hyundai Announces IONIQ 9 SUV and 550+ Mile Range EREVs for US Production
Additionally, Hyundai revealed plans to introduce Extended-Range Electrified Vehicles (EREVs) with a driving range of over 550 miles. These EREVs, which use a combustion engine to generate electricity for the battery, are expected to be competitively priced similar to plug-in hybrids. Production of EREVs will begin in North America and China in late 2026, with full-scale sales starting in 2027. Hyundai’s strategy also includes expanding its hybrid lineup and introducing new models under the Genesis brand, aiming to lead the EV market in key regions like North America and Europe.
